Gemtek i INNOVATIONS 2007
DESIGN AND ENGINEERING AWARD HONOREE
New York, New York, November 8, 2006
– The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA®)
today announced Gemini Technologies as an International
CES Innovations 2007 Design and Engineering Awards
Honoree for the Gemtek personal tracking device at
the International CES New York Press Preview. Products
entered in this prestigious program are judged by
a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers,
engineers and members of the trade press to honor
outstanding design and engineering in cutting edge
consumer electronics products.
The Gemtek allows consumers to remotely track the
position of a loved one, pet, asset or any other important
item that the person would like to locate in real-time
through the Internet or by placing a phone call. The
Gemtek utilizes existing GPS (global positioning satellite)
technology, SMS (standard messaging system) and GSM
(global system for mobile communications) to give
the end-user a complete solution.
Through advanced engineering and design, the Gemtek
revolutionizes the personal tracking industry, allowing
consumers worldwide to know the precise location of
the device with a few Internet key strokes or simply
by placing a phone call from any cell phone on any
cellular carrier. In addition to the tracking capability,
the Gemtek also functions as a cellular telephone.
A key component to the Gemtek is the website control
panel (www.geminitracking.com),
but locates can also be done from any mobile phone,
regardless of the wireless carrier. Through this password
protected user interface, the customer can locate
their tracking device, down to street level detail
or zoom out to get a more wide angle of the device’s
location. Users can define a territory, known as a
Geofence in which the device can travel freely. When
the device travels outside the geofence territory,
an alert is immediately sent to the user’s computer
or cell phone with the location of the device. Through
the website, the customer can also manage the notification
of the alert functions and determine which phone numbers
are set up to receive alert notifications for when
the SOS button is pressed or when the battery of the
device is low.
“We’re thrilled with the recent announcement
of the Gemtek as an Innovations 2007 Design and Engineering
Awards Honoree. The Gemtek is innovative technology
that is designed to help give people the peace of
mind they deserve,” says Tracy Alves, President
of Gemini Technologies which is headquartered in Portland,
Maine. “Whether it’s for your children,
pets, car, laptop computer or other valuable asset,
with Gemtek you can locate whatever is important to
you at the click of a button or a simple phone call.”
As a widely renowned consumer technology awards program
that began in 1989, the prestigious Innovations Design
and Engineering Awards recognize achievements in product
design and engineering. It is sponsored by CEA, the
producer of the International CES, the world’s
largest consumer technology tradeshow, and endorsed
by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA),
